BIO

Lady of the Red is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and illustrator with a name that plays on the term femme fetale and her birthplace in the Red River Valley of Canada.

Musically, she draws inspiration from Joni Mitchell, Karen Dalton, Bobbie Gentry, Bonnie Rait, Billie Holiday, Heart and Dolly Parton. The result is a contemporary, eclectic Americana blending elements of country blues and retro soul with free abandon. Potent lyricism, owed to her early artistic years competing in poetry slams. Deft and idiosyncratic guitar playing, which braves multiple open tunings and fingerpicking techniques. "Trembling vibrato… adds a seductive aura to her presence, one full of mystery and curious emotion. Singers like [her] feel touched by a spiritual musical legacy” — The Wild Is Calling.

One might wonder why she stepped away from her born-into name Larysa Musick (spelled with a Ukrainian 'ck'), to which she has a clear reply: self-preservation, as she approaches more conceptual and less confessional songwriting. Under her previous namesake, she released Tomorrow Is Bound to Come, a collection of whimsical coming-of-age songs. The EP was co-produced with Sierra Noble and Madeleine Roger (Producer of the Year, 2019 Western Canadian Music Awards), and received critical acclaim.
